The Two New Jerseys is a 30 minute NJN film. After the English conquest of New Netherland, King Charles II of Britain granted the former Dutch territories to his brother James, Duke of York, who divided the colony into New York and New Jersey. James gave New Jersey to his friends, who sold their shares to other investors, known as proprietors. In 1676, the colony was divided into East and West Jersey. From the outset, the two New Jerseys were beset with problems. In 1702, the proprietors asked the crown to take over the government, reuniting New Jersey.

The Trenton Barracks is one of just three downtown structures that survive from 1784. Built in 1758-59, it served as winter quarters for British “regulars” returning from campaigns in frontier regions of the French and Indian War. This new exhibit celebraties the 250th anniversary of the Old Barracks and explores the construction and occupants of the five British barracks in New Jersey; the role of the Lenape/Delaware people of New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the French & Indian War; and the campaigns of the New Jersey regiment, the famous “Jersey Blues.” Come and enjoy this visually rich exhibit that features rare artifacts of the French and Indian War from private and public collections. |

Royal Rule and Religious Revival is a 30 minute NJN film. The reunion of New Jersey did not solve its problems. New Jersey shared a governor with New York, Lord Cornbury, who aroused the ire of many New Jerseyans. In 1738, New Jersey obtained its own governor, Lewis Morris. Land ownership continued to be disputed, resulting in widespread rioting. At the same time, a religious revival known as the Great Awakening spread throughout the British colonies, resulting in the founding of Rutgers and Princeton universities. African Americans and Native Americans were drawn into the Awakening. In challenging established church authorities, the revival helped pave the road to the American Revolution.

Crossroads to Victory is a 30 minute documentary that examines the Revolutionary War in New Jersey and the impact that New Jersey had on the War. Incorporating a large cast of historic re-enactors, the program recounts the tale of Washington's army -- from the triumph of the Declaration of Independence through the bloody retreat across New Jersey to the eventual triumph which would loosely cement New Jersey and the 12 other states into "a more perfect union." |
